Alstom is providing financial backing for a number of community and charity-led projects around the UK and Ireland, through its Community Project Fund.
Ten projects will receive a share of more than £140,000, which was set aside for the UK and Ireland 2023 Community Project Fund, whilst the company is also encouraging its employees to utilise their annual volunteering day to provide the beneficiaries with additional support. The Community Project Fund was established to ensure that the local communities in which Alstom operates can benefit from projects that provide social and environmental value.
This funding round is providing support for projects ranging from suicide prevention and youth mental health, to social mobility and employment support.
Colin Haynes, Alstom UK and Ireland’s Environment, Health and Safety Director, commented:
“It’s fantastic to be able to award another round of funding for charities and community-led projects across the UK and Ireland. I was humbled to review the applications, as many of the projects were seeking relatively modest grants which, in turn, make a significant difference to people’s lives and prospects.
“It’s essential that we reflect the communities we serve, and the Community Project Fund is just one way we can do this. By supporting initiatives that address social and environmental needs, we not only contribute to the well-being of these communities, but also reinforce Alstom’s commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.”
The ten recipients of the 023 Community Project Fund are:
- Baton of Hope (UK) – Suicide prevention
- Scottish Action for Mental Health (Scotland) – Mental health
- Jigsaw (Dublin) – Mental health
- Young Enterprise (East and West Midlands) – Social mobility
- SV2 (Derbyshire) – Children’s RASSO Therapy
- Reach (Derby) – Food support
- Food 4 Thought (Derby) – Christmas meals
- Stretton Scout Group (Burton) – Camping equipment
- Let Us Play (Wolverhampton) – Disabled child respite support for parents
- Hillingdon Autistic Care and Support (London) – Employment support
Projects are nominated by members of staff across the annual funding cycle, and then they are encouraged to work alongside the group behind the project to complete the funding application. The application will then be reviewed by a senior panel.
